Amazon is acquiring Bee. Co-founder Maria de Lourdes Zollo posted the news; Amazon confirmed the deal to TechCrunch and said it had not yet closed, with Bee staff offered Amazon jobs (TechCrunch, 22 July 2025). Bloomberg filed the same day on the $50 wearable (Bloomberg).
Bee’s Pioneer Edition is still the cheapest credible microphone on this beat: $49.99, 160+ hours claimed, clip and wristband, iOS as the supported phone, audio transcribed and discarded. Amazon does not have to keep any of that. It also does not have to keep the LED behaviour WIRED documented at CES, when capture had no green light because Bee said the battery mattered more (WIRED, 8 January 2025).
Acquisitions in this category now have a pattern. HP bought Humane and the Pin went dark. A larger buyer is not automatically a stay-of-execution; it is a change of who can throw the switch. Amazon’s interest, on the record, is wearable AI rather than another Echo. That can mean the Pioneer keeps shipping. It can mean the Pioneer becomes a feature inside Alexa and the $50 SKU is a footnote.
Until Amazon says otherwise, the hardware page does not change. The Bee Pioneer remains a shipping clip with a week of battery and a missing pickup range. The LED, the iOS limitation and the promised-but-unpriced Premium tier are the items to re-check when Amazon publishes a customer-facing note.
