Amazon published a customer-facing account of what it has done with Bee: Voice Notes, Actions, Daily Insights, templates, and a privacy line that only the customer can read transcripts unless they share. The same post, and Bee’s homepage, now describe the indicator as green when Bee is capturing and off when it is not (About Amazon; bee.computer). This is a silent reversal of CES 2025, when WIRED wore a Pioneer whose capture state had no light because Bee said a green LED would cost battery (WIRED, 8 January 2025). A bystander is better off. Anyone quoting the CES piece without a date is now wrong in the covert direction.
The hardware price is still $49.99 with no billed plan. iOS is still the supported phone. Audio is still not stored. Seven-day battery is still the claim that makes the Pioneer the endurance outlier. Amazon’s ownership removes the Humane-style startup-death risk and replaces it with a platform risk: Bee can become an Alexa surface.
The Bee Pioneer page will follow the current LED wording and keep the WIRED wear as history. A recording indicator that changed without a changelog is still a spec change. It just happens to run in the wearer’s favour.
