Humane told early AI Pin buyers that March shipping would not hold. The Verge, citing a staff video and Discord mail, reported that the first units would arrive in mid-April at the earliest (The Verge, 22 February 2024).
The consolation was three months of the $24-a-month CosmOS plan, extended to anyone who bought before 31 March 2024, plus free shipping. As of that week Humane still listed the Pin at $699. The subscription is not optional colour: it pays for the eSIM and the cloud the Pin does not function without. A delay credit on a mandatory plan is a different gesture from a delay credit on a gadget that works offline.
Two facts were already on the public record and did not change with the slip. The Pin has no wake word; it activates on touch. It is meant to be a phone replacement with LTE, a projector and a camera, not a meeting recorder you start and stop. Those are the claims that reviews will actually test in April. A later ship date does not make the projector faster.
The delay is worth logging because this category is about to be scored on whether hardware exists, not whether a keynote happened. Humane has now told its own customers that the March date was a claim. The AI Pin page will follow the unit that actually arrives, not the one that was supposed to.
