The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission posted a recall of Humane’s Charge Case Accessory on 31 October 2024. About 10,500 units are in the action. The lithium polymer pack can overheat, posing a fire hazard. The CPSC records one report of a case melting on charge, with no injuries and no property damage (CPSC recall 25-026; The Verge, 31 October 2024).
The recalled accessory is the portable chrome case sold from November 2023 through May 2024, both in the complete system and separately for about $150. Humane and the CPSC say the AI Pin, the magnetic Battery Booster and the home charging pad are not included. Humane had already emailed owners in June to stop using the case.
At posting, the remedy was a refund ($149 standalone, $129 if the case came in the bundle) or a replacement case Humane said would take three to six months. That timeline is now part of the public record next to last week’s price cut. A company that is already selling a $499 pin with a mandatory $24 plan is also telling a subset of owners to throw away the thing that made a four-hour battery usable away from a desk.
The CPSC action is the instruction: stop charging that case. The AI Pin page will keep the recall next to the booster-swap battery story, because they are the same endurance problem with a safety heading on it.
