Far-field pickup is a geometry problem. Plaud solves it by putting four MEMS microphones and a voice-pickup unit on a card that sits still, and quoting 5 m in Enhance mode (Plaud EU, Note Pro). Vocci solves it by putting one MEMS microphone on a titanium ring and quoting 5 m (Vocci tech). Those cannot be the same measurement in a meeting unless the hand cooperates.
Hands do not cooperate. They gesture mid-sentence, drop into a lap, go into a pocket, pick up a glass, wash under IP67. A clip on a shirt moves with breathing. A card on a table moves when someone bumps the table. A ring moves with the conversation’s emphasis. Capture scores that treated Vocci’s 5 m as Plaud’s 5 m would be copying a headline.
What the other rings already admitted
Pebble’s Index 01 refuses the fight: 5–20 cm, not for meetings, hold-to-talk (Pebble). That is a dictation product. Sandbar’s Stream Ring is whisper at the mouth, which is the hand used as a telephone, not as a table array. The Verge’s July demo only works because Fahmi held the ring up (The Verge). Vocci is the first shipping ring that wants both jewellery and a room.
Engadget’s CES note is the independent check we have: Cooper was told 5 m and was not played a recording (Engadget, 5 January 2026). A manufacturer claim that has not been heard still goes on the spec table, cited, and bounded in the capture note. It does not get to win the axis on the integer.
Wearability is the reason you accept this
The Vocci Ring is 3–5 g, 2.85 mm, IP67, charging case, double-tap with LED and haptic. You will have it on. That is the whole argument against MagSafe cards. Capture has to pay for it. A 6.5 on capture next to a 9.5 on wearability is not a muddle. It is the kinematics.

If a later measurement shows a quiet table really is on the file at five metres, the note changes. Until then, matching Plaud’s far-field figure with one moving capsule is a claim this ranking will keep repeating as a claim. Jewellery that hears like a recorder would be the product everyone is pretending to sell. The physics on a finger is still the product they shipped.
